Launched in 2017 as a Limited Edition, the Cohiba Talisman EL 2007 provides a surprisingly mellow and strong-bodied draw, complementing a youthfully exuberant citrus punch. It’s very affordable and a favorite of new cigar smokers.
Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 Overview
At just over 6 inches, the Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 is a vitola cigar with a 54 ring gauge. First impressions are of the veined, dark-brown, hand-bound wrapper. You can taste that this is a young cigar, not yet evolved to its full flavor profile.
However, as with all cigars produced in the iconic El Laguito factory, this vitola provides a satisfyingly mellow draw. It’s ideal for a languid smoke on a lazy day, or as an upgrade if you are switching to Cubans after smoking cigars from other countries.
Smoking a Cohiba Talisman EL 2017
The taste of cedar is strong in the draw. As with many Cohiba models, the tobacco is fermented for extra time in specially-designated cedar-wood barrels.
The first half of the Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 unfolds with a mixture of sweet and savory, a honey topping to an earthy, nutty base. Continuing into the second half of the cigar you begin to taste the dark bitterness of chocolate, mixed with English oak.
Coming in a box of ten, the cigar has a swirling, brown wrapping, which helps to give it a timeless feel. A box of ten at this price is usually a winner for newcomers to Cuban cigars.
Although aged for at least two years before being sold, this cigar is younger than almost all other Cohibas. We recommend purchasing it at a young age and it is smokable now. It is also lovely to experience how these cigars mature over time. With proper storage in a humidor they only gain in value over time.
Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 Experience
This cigar is both younger and more affordable than many of the other Cohibas, yet has a character and mellowness that can surprise experienced cigar smokers. However, it’s predominantly a great choice of cigar for new cigar smokers and anyone preferring a light, mellow smoke.
